We must respect one another

To the Editor, I have never been very political. I am 59, Roman Catholic and come from a devout Irish family whose grandfather, father and brother served in law enforcement. I was brought up Democrat, raised to respect my faith, my family and my country. What guides my vote more than anything is I am pro-life, which is not simply being anti-abortion. Being pro-life is a school of thought which I choose to live by. Basically, life matters to me. All life, from conception to natural death, matters to me. To the Editor, As one of the foremost crusaders for woman’s rights during the 19th century, Amelia Bloomer championed causes such as women’s suffrage, temperance and a greater role for women in the everyday affairs of running the nation. She became the deputy postmaster of Seneca Falls, N.Y., in 1849 to demonstrate a woman’s right to fill any place for which she had the capacity. But it is not as an activist she is best remembered. To the Editor, As subscribers to the Weirton Daily Times, we want to comment on your column “It’s not just about the red and blue.” We appreciate the fact that you are working to promote unity in Weirton-Steubenville, a place where we once lived. But, it’s important to stress that before we begin healing, we demand government accountability and clear-eyed justice after the siege of the U.S. Capitol. Will Biden provide the answers?

To the Editor, What is it the brain stormers and geniuses of the world don’t understand? Why can’t they understand it’s the population of the world that is the problem? The Earth can only support 9 billion people. We are getting close. Then what? There are many possible scenarios of human extinction. Climate change is one of the top choices on the list. If every country in the world does not present a system of sharing in feeding the world, millions will die. A tragedy in our country

To the Editor, The invasion of the United States Capitol on Jan. 6 by Trump supporters was appalling, disgusting and heartbreaking. They rioted under the banners of “taking back our country,” “stop the steal” and “being patriots.” They are insurrectionists, anarchists and domestic terrorists who tried to overthrow our government and destroy our democratic processes of certifying the presidential election. The mob pushed into the Capitol gleefully like it was having a party, taking videos, selfies, then posting themselves on social media. Most didn’t have face coverings. ...

Kids are better off in school

To the Editor, Last year, when we began to hear and learn about the COVID-19 pandemic, there was very little data to support the decisions made, both locally and nationally, to shut down schools. The “experts” asked us to remain inside for two months and flatten the curve. How did that work for you? We know now that asymptomatic people don’t spread COVID. The recent data/science shows, verified by Dr. Fauci, that kids are safer and better off in school. They are learning minimally at home in virtual school.
