Our future, our children

To the Editor, I recently attended a meet the candidates night where I wrongly assumed the future of our nation, i.e. mapping out strategic common sense guidelines for the education of tomorrow’s leaders. Alas! This was not the case. Critical race theory and gender identity were barely mentioned in a corrective sense. Ronald Reagan stated that our republic was only one generation away from collapse. Ben Franklin proclaimed; now that you have a republic, can you keep it? These great Americans recognized the demands of constant vigilance as the cost of freedom. We can not allow our ...

A different time

To the Editor, Youth: Innocence on display. Wouldn’t it be fun to have sinned with Marilyn Monroe and ole Garbo back in the days before AIDS and more, not afraid to steal a kiss or take a hay ride without a health card request. Meet in the hall after class, holding hands and hugging, laughing and giggling. Turned on, turned down. Oh what fun it would have been just to be Garbo’s best friend. Steve Kopa Weirton

Show support for McKinley

To the Editor, Recently, candidate Mooney has called Congressman David McKinley a liar, although he has never stated what the Congressman lied about. Think about that! If anyone has lied during this campaign, it is Mooney. He has called Congressman McKinley a RINO. Congressman McKinley has been a life-long “West Virginia” Republican who has always espoused the basic Republican platforms. He has called Congressman McKinly a liberal. Mooney and anyone who knows Congressman McKinley knows this is false. Under any other circumstances to call Congressman McKinley a liberal would be ...

Offended by political ads

To the Editor, Over the past few months, we all have seen the political ads aimed at ‘we the people’ to contact Senator Joe Manchin to either support or not support President Biden’s Build Back Better Agenda. Some ads use spokespersons that are intended to reflect West Virginia values with the sponsor cited at the end of the ads. Those sponsored by BlueGreen Alliance (BGA) ask Senator Manchin support jobs, child care, etc. related to President Biden’s Agenda. BGA uses various union officials, such as, representatives from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), SEIU, and the ...

Questions left in Ukraine

To the Editor, Putin’s Ukraine Bodies in grotesque positions, humbled with death’s insensibility. Skulls exposed in Mariupol streets. Tanks destroyed, armored cars shattered, gun turrets with dangling bodies, the stench of death in Ukraine. Winds howl mercy, let there be peace. War is grotesque. Bring back my body, let me be whole again, my soul and body one. No one to my rescue, thousands are dead, thrown in trenches, not even a grave. The United Nations apologized, America as well, but somewhere in Ukraine my brothers lay. Dead. Thousands have died, millions have been ...

Nuclear power worth the risk

To the Editor, Suppose all vehicles on the road are powered exclusively by electricity. Just think, no more polluting exhaust from gasoline-powered engines. Pure green energy at last. But how many have considered the huge quantity of energy required for auto charging facilities? Not too many, I submit. The amount of electrical energy required for charging the batteries of a large fleet is indeed phenomenal. At present, green energy advocates appear to be blissfully ignorant of the enormous cost required for a charging source that will meet the demands of all electrically-powered ...
