Where are you Jesus?

To the Editor, I have often wondered why God does His things on a daily basis. He brings life, and he takes life. So I decided to ask Him about what has happened in my life. I was invited to a local church where the Pastor, and local ministers were gathered in a meeting room. Amongst them was Jesus. As we sat and had a spaghetti dinner that included bread and wine, I asked Jesus this question: “Why do you do the things that you do?” Jesus replied: “I do things that my father sees fit. I do things that may not be pleasing to you.” Then I asked: “Jesus, why is it that ...

The U.S. will decide

To the Editor, Twenty-twenty two. The world’s in turmoil. Climate changes very severe. Burning fossil fuels. Glaciers have shrunk. Flooding. Catastrophe. Astronomers searching the universe. Can earthlings find a new planet? Fox News chatters all day trying to start WWIII. It’s sad to think opinionator Tucker Carlson can be heard. Putin’s the man holding the world at bay, watching Ukraine burn to the ground. Sen. Lindsey Graham, Sen. Cruz as well, create no changes; no impact made. Town meetings will be held. What to do with Vladimir. It’s up to the people of a great ...

Sounding the alarm

To the Editor, Those infamous words once shouted by Paul Revere, on his midnight ride, to alert colonial militia, that the British forces were coming. That was some night in April 1775. Now nearly 250 years later, the alarm must be sounded once again, only this time it’s the “Gas Driller’s” that want to come and want to take over the city of Weirton. Like those militia, we too, will not give up, without a fight. Every citizen needs to know that Southwestern Energy (SWN) is requesting permission to drill 14 gas well-pads behind the existing Walmart, off of Three Springs and ...

Are new rates worth it?

To the Editor, When you look at the sewer rate increase schedule, something interesting stands out: the 3,050 gallon category’s first rate increase of 66.8% is nearly double that of the next Category’s (3,400 gal.) rate increase of 36.1%! All other categories differ 5% or less! Why? A logical explanation would be: the bulk of the 8,117 Weirton residential water/sewer households fall within the 3,050 gallon monthly range and therefore are the easiest group to fleece to pay for the sewer expansion project. To add insult to injury, the 8,117 Weirton residential customers use, on a ...

Who should pay for utility upgrades?

To the Editor, Who should pay for the water and sewer upgrades in the City of Weirton? There is a group of Weirton citizens having a petition drive in order to get that answer from the West Virginia Public Service Commission (WVPSC). The WVPSC has said that they do not support the proposed Weirton project as it is currently structured; That Weirton officials have stated that the need for the project relates to future demands of the area; that the WVPSC Staff has long held the position that the responsible party, being the land developers, should pay their own way with respect to ...
