Where’s the transparency?

To the Editor, July 1 marked the fifth anniversary of the Hancock County Commission’s take-over of their county animal shelter. For 20 years, a nonprofit operated the shelter under a annually renewable contract. The county negotiated the shelter financial support level each year. The Commission offered the nonprofit $80,000 from the county budget and the $100,000 annual excess levy funds to operate the shelter for fiscal year 2017. However they wanted changes to the contract giving the Commission final authority over animals being destroyed at the shelter and indicated animals should ...

Information needed on “Jeep” Davis

To the Editor, My name is Roy Ault. I wrote a weekly column in the Charlotte Sun in Florida for 33 years I am a graduate of Ohio State and was a coach in Ohio for 17 years. I was a physical education major and was required to take every sport as an academic class. As a senior I took the track and field class. In that class was Glenn Davis, one of the greatest runners of all times. I had just graduated when Glenn won his first gold medal in the 1956 Olympics. Even though he was two classes behind me we became friends. I also have written nine books and currently am writing one ...

Thanks to everyone

To the Editor, My mother, Jerry Licause, passed away on Monday and I would like to thank everyone involved from the EMT’s to the firemen and police officer who tried their best to revive her. Everyone was very professional and kept us informed on how she was doing. They tried for about 45 minutes to bring her but nothing seemed to be working. As they were taking her from the house to the hospital, everyone there said they will keep on trying and they were sorry for me and my father. Again, my father and I would like to say thank you to all who tried their best to save my mom. ...

Garner deserving of accolades

To the Editor, The OVAC struck out when Coach Sherrie Garner was excluded from its distinguished list of nominees for Coach of the Year. Think about it. The Oak Glen Golden Bears haven’t been to the WV State Softball Tournament for 23 years. The team was undefeated through the regular season and Sectional Tournament. They lost one game in the Regional Tournament, but came back to win the first place trophy. To bring a team back to win the tournament more than exhibits the coaching acumen of Coach Garner. This only happens when a head coach, along with her coaching staff have the ...

Fox News is a sitcom

To the Editor, In America, democracy is an ongoing experiment based on insanity, according to Fox News reporting by Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingrahm. What have they articulated that has made anyone’s life any better? There were just four years of the Trump administration, and it will take years before the people realize how much irreparable damage happened under his watch. The American people have been duped by Fox’s big three in their adoration of former President Donald Trump, and that is beyond comprehension. All it would take is a little bit of class and a ...

Be tougher on Russia

To the Editor, I don’t know if nuclear first strike capability is possible. We need to determine if an arms race with Russia could lead to our annihilation; and if so, we need to have both countries agree to a freeze on new nuclear weapons (at least if such a freeze is verifiable.) There should, of course, be immediate inspection of any suspected nuclear weapon sites. If Russia doesn’t agree to this — and if any diplomatic gesture such as inviting them to join NATO doesn’t work — then we need to have tougher sanctions than we do at present. We should also ...
